Der Name Brigitte Schwenner ist nicht erst seit der Fashion Show in New York bekannt. Mit viel Fließ, Ambitionen und einer natürlichen Begabung schaffte es die junge Designerin über den Ozean hinaus an Bekanntheit. Heute präsentiert Brigitte Schwenner mit ihrem Label Sievering klassische und zeitlose Mode. Eindrucksvoll konnte sie das bei der letzten New Yorker Fashion Show unter Beweis stellen. Mit weiteren 90 Designern wurden die neuen Trends und Kollektionen für den kommende Frühjahr/Sommer 2014 vorgestellt. Zugleich ist die Fashion Show in New York aber auch Heimat der großen US-Labels wie Tommy Hilfiger und anderen. Doch unserer heutiger Blick richtet sich ganz auf Brigitte Schwenner und ihr Label Sievering.

Das Label Sievering zeigte uns auch dieses Jahr auf der New Yorker Fashion Show eine sehr exclusive und fulminante Mode für Frauen. Mit Hingabe und viel Liebe zum Detail sorgte Brigitte Schwenner für eine traumhafte Fashion voller Weiblichkeit. Elegant und doch zugleich mit einem klassischen Charme geprägt, präsentierte das Label Sievering 6 unterschiedliche Modelle. Von exquisiten Abendkleidern bis hin zu Brautkleidern aus 1001 Nacht. Ein Blick auf die Sievering Kollektion:

Brigitte Schwenner – Vita

Der Lebenslauf von Brigitte Schwenner liest sich nicht wie bei den üblichen Nachwuchsdesignerinnen. Geprägt von vielen unterschiedlichen Stationen und Lebenserfahrungen fließen so die verschiedensten Inspirationen in ihre Mode mit ein. Ein kurzer Blick richtet sich dabei folgend auf die prägnantesten Bewegungen in der Vita von Brigitte Schwenner.

Die Künstlerin wurde in Deutschland geboren und fühlte sich bereits in der 2. Klasse zur Mode hingezogen. Nach einem Chemie-Studium zog es Brigitte Schwenner gleich zwei Mal für längere Zeit nach Japan. Eine faszinierende Zeit für Inspirationen und dem Erlernen der japanischen Kultur. Aber auch das soziale Engagement kam nicht zu kurz. So engagierte Sie sich unter anderem für eine Kinderklinik in ihrer ehemaligen Heimat Wuppertal.

Im Jahre 1999 startete Brigitte Schwenner in ihre neue Karriere. Mit dem Umzug in die USA erfolgte ein drastischer Schritt, der sich jedoch als sehr positiv erweisen sollte. Mit diversen Tätigkeiten und einem Modestudium in New York, welches sie mit Summa Cum Lauda abschloss, legte sie weitere Grundsteine. 2006 startete dann ihr großer Traum. Das Label Sievering wurde geboren und ist heute vom Einfluss der modernen Architektur und dem einfachen Denken geprägt. Zeitlose Kleidung, die jede Frau mit einem besonderen Stil prägt. Das ist Sievering by Brigitte Schwenner.

Critic Award Ceremony at the Opening of the Fashion Design AAS Exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York

As the Critic of one of the Spring 2013 Graduating Classes, I was delighted to give the Critic Award to a student who more than deserved to get it. Hoon Hwa Na, the winner, did incredible work creating an absolutely outstanding garment. The design idea as well as the execution and her overall work ethic were simply excellent. I was ensured that I chose the right person when the whole class confirmed my decision with applause.

Seven more of my students' designs got chosen by the judges to be shown as great examples of the class's work during the           Fashion Design AAS Exhibition at FIT.

Among those students are

Natasha Bookal, Haley Danzig, Angely De Aza, Glenys Nadia,  

 Brittany Soto, Pearl Sun, and Briana Williams

Many more students who didn't get chosen also created wonderful garments and amazed me with their skills and attitude. Often enough I thought "WOW, this is 8th semester work, but HEY, they are just in their 4th". I loved to work with each and everyone.

The inspiration and this semester's theme was based on           "Andy Warhol and the 1960s".
For me, it was very important to approach the goal very openly to be able to find out where talent was hidden. And, as we could see, it got interpreted in many different ways. The students proofed that they were able to go new, different, unexplored, maybe even inconvenient, exciting, and sometimes very challenging ways. I feel that it is just amazing, where a design idea, combined with several other factors, as may be heritage, environmental or interpersonal influences, can bring us.

World Intellectual Property Day event at The Fashion Law Institute at Fordham Law School

I joined yesterday's World Intellectual Property Day event at The Fashion Law Institute at Fordham University.
With its open clinic, the Fashion Law Institute gives designers the great opportunity to get information about IP rights.
 
During the event, I talked about how I was not able to protect my intelectual property when my designs got copied .

Let's support it the Fashion Law Institute and all it's efforts.
We need better laws to protect our designs!

This silk zipper dress, designed and made be me, was created in Summer 2011 and shown at the Fashion Group International (FGI) Ready-to-Wear Show in Fall 2011 and at the Induction of Ralph Rucci and Donald Brooks to the Fashion Walk of Fame in October 2011.
